Our cows and the environment they roam
Happy, healthy dairy cows start with an equally happy, healthy environment that prioritises great herd management – not to mention love for the cows. That’s why our farms (and our milk) are free from nasties: pesticides, petrochemicals and hormones.
What’s more, ample wide-open natural pasture means our free-range cows are footloose, well-fed grazers year-round.
And though our herds are predominantly grass-fed – the naturally better way – they do receive a small amount of non-GMO grain while milking, which ensures they have a balanced diet. Plus, they love the grains!
We also make sure a vet regularly checks our beloved bovines. And all of our cows (who we affectionally refer to by name – Applejack Eileen, Getaway Vera and Celebrity Olivia, to name a few) wear Heatime monitors (essentially, a Fitbit for cattle) that tracks their movement, eating and sleeping patterns in real time. If an irregularity occurs, our farmers know about it straightaway and can check on the health of the cows.
One-of-a-kind milk method
For generations now, most milk manufacturing involves heating milk, homogenising it, pulling it apart, filtering it and finally recombining it. Basically, this milk is no longer milk the way nature intended.
Completely different from the multiple processes of this heat-pasteurisation, our patented, cold pressed, naturally better process is simple. We milk our cows on-farm, safety-test every batch, bottle the milk directly, then place every sealed bottle under cold high water pressure. This pressure equates to six times the pressure of the deepest part of the ocean; it destroys all the harmful bacteria, making our milk safe to drink. It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3, 4:
1. Source the milk – milk comes to our processing site from a single-source farm
2. Bottle and seal the milk
3. Apply cold high pressure – our high-pressure processing (HPP) machine works its magic on our sealed bottles to destroy harmful pathogens
4. Batch-test and box all the milk – readying it for your store shelves.
The NSW Food Authority has approved this cold-pressed method. It provides the same level of safety as heat pasteurisation but without ‘cooking’ the milk. So although the cold pressurisation removes the bacteria, it keeps all the good stuff.
The result is farm-fresh milk, as it should be. In fact, cold pressed raw milk maintains an almost identical nutritional profile to that of raw milk – straight from the cow. It preserves all the vitamins, minerals and enzymes of raw milk, while being safe to drink.
